put my notice in

I have giving my notice in to work. I have been on the sick for a few weeks now, and with my family life me working isnt helping my doctor has told me to stop working...
I am getting tax creds at the mo, what will happen when i phone them will they stop all my money?
If so how long does it take?
Also how long before i will get income support,
i have been told i will get a 4 week run on or working tax credits is this right? and will they just pay me in 1 lump payment or over the 4 weeks?
thanks

  • When you phone them they will adjust your award so you shouldn't have them stopped completely(unless you are only claiming WTC then they will stop altogether), not sure about the WTC at all, I wouldn't imagine they would keep paying it as it may result in an overpayment but could be wrong.

IS took 3/4 weeks for mine to come through and was paid a lump sum from the time I claimed until the time it came through. If you have been advised to stop working would you not claim ESA rather than income support?

It all depends on household income, any children and their ages etc.

  • On what grounds are you planning to claim income support?

    Do you have a partner?

    Do you have children?

Are you suffering from a disability which gives rise to care or mobility needs?

It shouldn't take long to sort out, probably 2-4 weeks. Your best to claim income support as the stress of ESA and all the hassle that goes with claiming it isn't worth the stress.

  • You can either claim Employment and Support Allowance OR Carers Allowance support with an income support top up. You can also claim child benefit, child tax credit, disability and severe disability element of child tax credit, housing benefit and council tax benefit and of course DLA that your child already receives.

Working tax credit run on for four weeks, including the childcare element. It will be paid at your usual weekly rate, not in a lump sum.
