Regarding landlords, Is the rent money paid into YOUR account or the landlords? If its the the former, couldn't you just tell the Landlord that you are nothing to do with DSS and are paying privately? How would they know?
You decide which account it goes into. And also whether or not to advise the LL, but they will want proof of your rent, and if like me the Tenancy Agreement was 20 years old, and there had been no recent rent increases (lest I should move out leaving yet another one of their properties sitting empty for months) then only a letter from the LL or their agent will do and I am pretty sure most LL are savvy enough to know why you would want this.

If you are renting through an agency many request employers referees as well as credit checks (well our last 3 have) they want to know that you have the means to pay your rent. Those that advertise no DSS often do so as the terms of their mortgage or insurance may not allow them to rent to those on benefits.
You may find it hard dependng on your area to find those that will take tenants who are on benefits. Also you will also want to position yourself for paying the rent yourself when you are working again, the LHA rate drops, rules change etc
for info LHA is not payable for council properties they work on the housing benefit system that is based on the rent and not your circumstances0 -
Are JSA and housing benefits linked?
Someone told me that losing their JSA benefit doesn't effect their housing or council benefit?
Can you claim housing benefit if you dont get any money at all? like you are not even claiming JSA?
I was looking into trying to get some training to learn new *usable* skills at some point (as opposed to the constant 'CV writing 'courses' im being sent on at the moment) which would likely be a fulltime course which would mean having to sign off of JSA.
Could you apply for housing benefit without receiving JSA or any other benefit?
Obviously it would either have to be a place where the benefit covered the rent, or id have to find extra money from somewhere else)
Is that possible?0 -
You can claim HB whilst working if your income is low enough.~*~ If you don't need it, it isn't a bargain ~*~0

You can be receipt of LHA whilst not claiming JSA, however you will not be eligible if you are in full time education (unless you are disabled, a single parent etc).Gone ... or have I?0

Is that possible?:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

theoretically, what if I was both not receiving JSA and wasn't in fulltime education or working?
Would one still get Housing benefit?0 -

Hi,
Yes you can claim housing benefit or LHA without claiming any other benefit BUT if you're still unemployed the department dealing with the claim will want to know how you are supporting yourself. This is to make sure you are entitled and that you are not living off savings that amount to more than the legal limit you're allowed to have when claiming HB ot LHA.0
