Start a tyre tread wear thread? I envisage a thread which is moderated only to allow tyre tread wear statistic posts, any off topic posts to be deleted. I don't mean this thread, this thread is to discuss the idea.

So for example having bought new tyres today I would put this into the thread

    Avon ZT5 175 65 14 ordered and fitted - MADE IN CHINA ! - E4 -
£33 ea ordered direct from local independent fitter
    Mileage today is 63670
On the rear, FWD, at 33psi
    New tread depth 9mm

That would be followed up by an update after 10,000 miles with an accurate tread depth reading or a mileage reading when the twi were reached. FWD = front wheel drive, RWD = rear wheel drive.

There would have to be a discussion thread of the same title linked to the thread because inevitably people will want to discuss the new posts and any issues connected to the treadwear thread for example their opinions on grip/noise provided by the tyres they just bought.

Obviously this would be a long term thread, but I have been here 5 or 6 years and if we had started one then, we would have a good quality thread by now.

By the time you have any meaningful stats, the original tyres will no longer be available in the retailers (maybe the manufacturer will have disappeared/the tyre been replaced by "this year's model/etc)

A database would be a better way to store and analyse such information. Dumping raw data into forum posts without an easy way to aggregate data about the same tyres is not going to give a clear picture of tyres' performance.
