panasonic plasma internal fault

Hi guys first post and i hope i have posted in the right section
I have had a 42" panasonic viera plasma for about 5 years now and at the time it cost me about £2,500 about 3 years ago i had to have it repaired(by panasonic) there was a prob with the picture lots of threads on the web about this.Anyway two days ago i was watching the tv and the fuse blew in the tv,now all i get is the red led flashes on the front of the tv.The question is i would expect it to last longer than this, its not that its on 24/7 maybe 4,5 hours a day.If it was a cheap make i would have been happy with 4,5 years use but not a panasonic and not one costing that ammount.I did some reading and found" Sale of Goods Act include a 6 year statutory limitation period "Question is do i have a leg to stand on? as i can not afford a new one and a panasonic dealer says it could cost a lot to fix thanks for your help and advice

    i doubt its worth it
my 50" plasma cost £700 or so last year
its probably higher spec than yours was new
Any refund you got would be a % given the TV is 5 years old.
you would need to prove it was an inherent fault and TBH given the TVs age i dont really see its worth it?
does google throw up man people with the same fault?
blowing the fuse makes it sound like a piece of hardware has died.

Thanks for the reply, yes there are quite a few threads on this prob,i dont want to replace it,it would be nice just to get it repaired. The thing that worries me is it has already gone wrong once on me and as you say newer tvs are cheaper, better spec so should i cut my loses?

Put it this way, my Sharp LCD that I had for a little over 5 years, actually three months outside a John Lewis 5 year warranty, gave up the ghost las weekend. It was £1800 new, although I did get a good pricematch, and it turns out the panel would have to replaced at a cost of £1700

As I'm a realist I fully accept that no retailer would entertain paying that given that you can pick up a much better spec. for as little as £400 these day nor would they be legally obliged to, and as I've enjoyed a good 5 years of use I've decided to move one and upgrade. I suggest you do the same.

I'd cut your losses - plasma displays (especially earlier ones) have a limited lifetime anyway, so the TV may not have so long left in it anyway...
