minimum balance worries

Options
hiya -

need some advice. i have recently transferred by balance from one credit card to another to get a 0% deal. I changed the s/o on the card to reflect the higher amount for the minimum payment, but having logged on this morning, it appears that i am still £1.36 due on my minimum amount for this month and it is due tomorrow - ie Sunday ie unachievable.

Is this going to affect my credit score, even though i have previously had no problems meeting my minimum payment, and have already paid £230 into this account this month.

I'm in the middle of renegotiating my mortgage, and if this affects it I'll be truly gutted! it was truly a miscalculation on my part.

am somewhat worried!

  • Hi, I would phone the credit card company today and explain what happen, I'm sure for such a small amount there will be a way to sort it out without you losing the balance transfer rate, maybe by paying it in cash on monday morning at the relevent bank.

I would make a fast pay, although doubt it will post in time. Always read your statments
  • thank you both - i've just rung them, and they said that as its my first offence, it won't affect anything, but they will charge me £12 for a late payment. I'll definitely check next time that i have the right amount on the s/o.

Feeling slightly less concerned though now.... phew!

^that. Direct Debit for minimum payment so it is the card companies responsibility to take enough to cover you and you can then choose to pay more as and when (and if) :o

  • i may well do that, thanks. i've always been hesitant to do that in the past, as i can change a s/o myself, and so feel like i'm more in control of my money, but clearly this time it backfired on me :( but good advice nonetheless, and i may have to rethink my strategy. :)
