Was the SDA paid within his IS?
How much was he getting via IS?

There has never been any mention of SDA 'till yesterday.

I think he got something like £90 (+ or - a bit) IS... IS has now been reduced to £19 pw because of the change to SDA

He's 29 as for IS I think it was when he was 16/18 but could be wrong.

In that case he may well have qualified for SDA. I think you need to call the DWP on Monday.

Yep I will be doing, he may well have qualified for SDA but by (suddenly) doing so it reduces his total benefit by almost £70 pw....

Income Support applicable amount as follows (2010/11 rates) :-

    Personal Allowance £65.45
    Disability Premium + £28.00
    Total = £93.45

    less SDA - £74.45

    = Income Support due of £19.00 p.w.

No Severe Disability Premium payable because he either lives with his folks or someone claims Carer's Allowance for him ?

Chances are he's always had SDA included in the assessment, SDA's been getting paid together with his Income Support in one amount rather than two ("combined benefits"). It certainly isn't a new claim to SDA, new claims to SDA were scrapped nearly 10 yrs ago. They're probably just getting the uprating of his benefits sorted out for April 2011, hence the letter dropping out of the blue.
I no longer contribute to the Benefits & Tax Credits forum.

That just about sums it up! So what's happened to his DLA? He's now not getting any according to the letter.

I've never seen any reference to SDA... ever!

The department that deals with IS / out of work disability benefits doesn't deal with DLA - hence no mention of it.

There shouldn't be any change to any DLA (unless he's had a renewal recently). DLA is a seperate benefit so may well not be mentioned on the letter you have regarding his IS.

On my husband's ESA letters there's usually no mention of DLA (that comes as a separate letter).
