Main dealer not entirely honest.

I have a three-year old Jazz with full Honda history. It was recently due for MoT but local Kwik Fit had special offer -- MoT & air-con re-gas for £60. I had this done before my Honda serivice ( I now like to separate the MoT from the service so I'm not over a barrel). happy with that. Passed MoT no problems.
Booked in for service and call from dealer -- air-con needs regassing, pollen filter, and tyres need re-tracking as front wheel wear is uneven. £99, £28 and £45 respectively (ridiculous prices, I know). I declined. I told him about the fact that the air-con had just been done and that either he was mistaken of Kwik Fit had diddled me. Sudden backtracking -- technician advised it due to age of the car -- obviously, no guage was put on it to see if it needed re-gassing.
Took car to tyre specialists later. Tracking spot on and no uneven tyre wear. One front tyre had less tread because it was older, but no uneven wear across the tyre.
In my opinion, the dealership tried to fiddle me out of £144. I am currently waiting for a response to my complaint.
Kwik Fit checked my tracking for a special price of £17 (new branch trying to drum up business), but charged nothing as it didn't need adjusting and would not even accept a fiver tip. So well done Kwik Fit despite your slightly dodgy reputation.

"Main dealer not entirely honest"
You've only just realised that? The word "entirely" could have been omitted too! Yes, even if the work was necessary their prices are ridiculous. The flashy showrooms and "free" coffee have to be paid for somehow though.;) In fact some even charge for the coffee.

Goodness, i'd still choose Dealer over Kwik-Fit ANY day :A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Please don't be offended if that opinion differs from yours, but feel free to click the 'Thanks' button if it's at all helpful!0

I've had good and bad service from both over the years.
So my less than startling conclusion is quality of service varies from garage to garage, irrespective of the name over the door.0 -
Dealerships do what they like and most people never complain.....
Why? because dealerships know that people only go there if they're complete fools“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I really object to this you !!!!!. look at all my previous posts. I have never tried to promote anybody. I am well aware of Kik Fit's reputation but on this occasion they served me well.
Yes, I know main dealers charge over the odds but there is some value in having a main dealer history when I sell the car, so I am prepared to pay a bit more for this. I wouldn't go near one with an older car. However, I expect to be overcharged for the service but not asked to pay for unnecessary additional work.Je suis sabot...0 -
I think jaydeeuk1 was just being silly by pointing out that anyone who recommends Kwikfit must be spamming
(note use of big grin smiley) I very much doubt you were actually reported

Not quite.
I have a new car, bought with a three-service service plan.
Most of those are reckoned to be good deals if you can pull out an extra few hundred up front, MINI tlc is another good one.
We could discuss VAT-registered garages, but realistically the best way to maintain a new car warranty is to have it serviced at the franchised dealer.
And another thing, there was some research done a few years ago which suggested charges and standard of work varied.
Main dealers did not always do the best work, but neither were they aways the most expensive.
If you are after something like a battery, it's always worth getting a quote from the main dealer, they can be cheaper than Halfords or the factors.0 -

Ha, dont get me started with Arnold Clark and my new Fiat last summer, they couldnt even put the correct type of oil in it ending up in Fiat getting involved and getting it sorted, and that was at the "dealer"0
