Longevity, maintenance and parts supply are all big issues with Korean though. You could pass 7/8 VW/Honda/Toyota/BMW dealers before you see a closed down Proton/Kia dealer. Your local Fred-in-a-shed is not going to know how they work (and even though they are often based on Astras etc, which is far from a plus, they still have quite a few unique parts that even ADL/Blue print do not do pattern parts for) so you will have to source a good Dealer for a good proportion of the work and parts, which may involve a 50-60 mile round trip.

Until recently I ran one of the early Daewoos, a Nubira, which is 14 years old (it's still going, I only sold it because we got a good deal on a replacement).
No longevity issues, no rust, no problem getting fixed at local independent and parts cheaper than Nissan.
Yes we had to buy an ABS sensor from a main stealer but it was £40 -- they hardly raped me.0 -
Proton's are Malaysian, not Korean....
Parts for Malay cars are relatively easy to get in the UK, I've never found it an issue. Aftermarket parts can be harder to source, but are usually a lot cheaper for my car than other models....even shipping from Malay generally isn't too bad for parts.
The worst I've had so far with the coupe was a dickey wiper motor in three years of owning!0
