Try to wipe the connector clean (unplug it first!). Most Dells use the same power connector (along with some other manufacturers also). Do you know anyone else with an adapter you could try instead? Just check the voltage supplied by their adapter is the same as yours before plugging it in.

have tried unplugging it,and cleaning it,but makes no difference,i was maybe going to put the battery in the fridge for a few hours,i've heard that may work.

either battery is dead or as well input jack damaged maybe?
have you a friend with a 1545 you could chuck your battery in at all and try his power supply on his lappy then can prove/disprove the battery then if is the battery new battery. if not the battery is the jack or charger.

Actually you only need a friend with any Dell charger as they're all the same size and report to the BIOS.

Check that the output from the charger jack is correct with a multimeter.
