BB guns

BB guns are not glorified paintball guns. Paintball pellets sting when they hit but don't do more damage than a bruise. Fine, you could be unlucky and get one right in the eye and lose an eye, I suppose, but that's it. I don't think you'd manage to smash a window with one, for example.
BB guns will kill birds and small mammals, seriously injure larger animals (including children), and can smash windows, dent cars, damage property etc... A BB pellet will actually enter flesh, like a bullet, not just bounce off and leave a bruise, if at short enough range.
don't be talked into something just because his mate has one.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -
Me and my brothers had one when we were younger. Just used to make our own targets up with a very thick wooden backing.
We never did any harm to eachother or any wild life.
Great fun and really enjoyed it.9/70lbs to lose

Ahh but most folk on here believe teenage boys incapable of being sensible GeeGee. They think they are going to go out and shoot anything that moves for the fun of it!
Woe betide the OP actually knows her own son well enough to know he can be trusted eh

I trust my sons to be sensible, but I don't know their friends well enough to trust all of them, and peer pressure can be very compelling!Signature removed for peace of mind0

My kids both had them from a very young age, the spent hours in the garden supervised by their Grandad shooting cans and boxes with cowboys and Indians painted on them.
They knew how to use them, they respected the guns and funnily enough neither turned into animal shooting hoodlums.
I believe OP was looking for advice on the gun, not a lesson in morality or a lecture on the dangers of BB guns in the wrong hands.0 -
I've also been a member of local gun clubs.. really good fun, and usually full of old people lol.
They have very strict rules on where you can stand etc, and they are very safe.
I went to an indoor club and it was brilliant, very friendly, not that expensive after you pay for the membership, and just very well organised

Me and my brothers used to have them when we were a lot younger than 15!
Is it just a bb gun for shooting the little PLASTIC bb's? or does he want one to shoot copper bb's....
If it just a plastic bb's I really don't know what all the fuss is about. My brother would shoot me at point blank range when I was younger and I lived to tell the tale!
The copper ones are a little different, although he's nearly 16!
Just make sure he's using it on targets and not torturing animals or something!
it'll be fine
If its for plastic bb's, dont worry about all the extras and bells and whistles etc. They aren't accurate enough to worry about that, really as the bullets are so light and can go off course very easily, especially outside0 -
I think that there is alot of confusion here, if it's a soft air bb then it will use little gas cannisters and that will not even break the skin. Then there is air rifles, pistols which use lead pellets and can cause a lot of damage in the wrong hands.
Depends what your son is thinking of getting.0 -
The ones that shoot plastic bb's are often just spring powered, although I might be a little out of date as I haven't shot my guns in about 10 years, and I think that now even the ones that shoot plastic bb's can be a little more powerful as some are Co2 powered, adding an extra 50feet per second or so to the speed0
