Curtain pole keeps falling down

My sons room has a wooden curtain pole that keeps falling down. It's fixed directly onto the wall. It's plaster then breeze block I think.

The wall is just sort of crumbling and the wall plugs don't stay in very well and the holes have gradually got bigger every time it's fallen out.

What's the best type of filler to put in the holes that would be good enough to drill into and hold the wall plugs?

I asked in B&Q and he suggested sticking the ends of the curtain rail to the wall with No More Nails glue, but that seemed a bit too permanent.

Dad suggested fastening a wooden batten onto the wall then putting the pole on the batton, but I don't like the look of that, so I want to try and avoid that.
Here I go again on my own....

Dad is right, see my explanation here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3015134 - although for a curtain pole. I agree, it will not look so good.

We had this problem in our living room, walls were just crumbling and I was fed up taking my life in my hands every time I opened the curtains. Hubby put up wooden baton, painted it the same colour as the wall, you can hardly see it and they haven't fallen down since.

You could try removing some of the crumbly plaster, wetting it a little and then filling with Exterior Polyfilla - the exterior stuff seems to have some kind of 'resin' in it and it's incredibly strong. You could probably even just push the rawl plug into the filler whilst it's wet and then leave it to set;)

are the walls brick with plaster or plasterboard?

One more vote for wooden baton and then fixing to that. If you really dont like that option then maybe you need a deeper fixing and get into brick (presuming walls are brick!)
