If i need to claim of CC company......

Options
do they need to still active? I have used them to pay for activities on an upcoming holiday. I do not use them anymore, but was worried if i cancelled them & things went wrong i could not go back to them.

Hope this makes sense.
if i had known then what i know now

  • Not sure if I have read you correctly - you have paid for travel activities on a credit card A - if it goes wrong you expect card B (who you no longer use) to cough up - in that case NO chance.
If you meant that you have paid on card A and card A is still open with a nil balance whether they are liable - YES they are.

I think he's saying paid on card A, but card A is now settled and closed.
    Are card A liable?
I would have thought they were still jointly liable.
Otherwise we'd all keep our cards open for a few years before cancelling them.

    But anyone know for sure.

Sorry if it did not make that much sense, was in a rush y/day morning when i posted it.

I have 2 x CC cards that i booked various activities inc car hire for an upcoming holiday in Asia + NZ. They are Amex & tesco.

Now as i understand it(correct me if wrong) if things do not work out ie activities & car hire firms go bust etc, the CC companies are liable if i need to claim any monies back.

What i do not want to do is cancel them & find out they will not help if things do go wrong. Trying to cover all eventualities.

    Hope this makes more sense:j

If there is a section 78 liability the card issuer does not escape it just because the account has been closed subsequent to purchase.

If the card company has ceased trading any section 78 liability would move to the FSCS.

    Don't you mean section 75?
  • Why not keep both open until after your holiday to make sure - then you know there is no problem.
