I have an old boiler gloworm fuelsaver MKII and the main burner doesnt come on when i turn either the heating or hot water on. I want to replace it with a new combi boiler but want to have the system cleaned first. My question to those in the know Is it possible to powerflush or does it require a working boiler? thanks

No you do not need a working boiler. You can connect the powerflush unit across the existing boiler inlet and outlet.
Its very easy to hire a unit and DIY this.
See this link and the pdf file at the bottom of the page.

Powerflushing is more effective when the system is warm, but its not essential. Just run the flush as normal but pop a couple of kettles of boiling water into the powerflush unit (gradually!) to heat it up along with the cold water that is in the system.
As I said, its not essential but it will make the process a bit quicker.0 -

Some powerflush machines have a built in heater to aid the chemical process.0
