Building Regs / Planning Permission

I'm shortly hoping to move into a house with a detached garage.
Currently there is no direct access from the garden into the garage - you have to go through the gate and use the up and over door.
Would I need to get planning permission / building regs approval in order to put a UPVC door (may be with window) into the garden side of the garage in order to get better access. I plan to put the tumble dryer and chest freezer in there.
Cheers,
Andy.

if your demolishing anything, or any type of structural work, you need building regs and probably planning too, if its just replacing a like for like door, you need to make sure that the company installing upvc doors are FENSA registered,
so for the above work i would suggest checking with your local planning/building control deptNamed after my cat, picture coming shortly0 -
If you are getting a double glazing firm to do this, they should sort out all the relevant approvals.0

You don't ever need to use a FENSA registered company for replacement double glazing (although you might well find it convenient to do so) and FENSA will not register new or replacement windows or doors in a detached garage as it is beyond their remit.0

Never read the post properly.Detached garages are a different kettle of fish.0

don't understand what this has to do FENSA. presumably the garage is not heated or habitable. personally, i would not bother contacting planning authority. maybe get building control to look at the lintel above the new structural opening but that's all.0

Thanks for the info.
I was going to get a "friend of a friend", who I know will do a good job and purcahse the door direct.
I guess it's a call to the local authority planning department and hopefully just be a building regs inspection at most.
All I've got to do now is complete on the house - a week on Friday hopefully.
Watch out for a new post of how easy is it to install a dish washer.
Thanks again for your help.0
