Tunisia...

Hello All,
I'm feeling really depressed about my partner and mine's upcoming trip to Tunisia in April [school hols].
We're all paid for and booked with Thomas Cook, who have cancelled all flights for Feb but will review March nearer the time.
Reasons i'm depressed:
- If we want to swap the destination it'll cost us £70 plus the extra cost of the holiday.
- We were affected by Gold Trail last summer, so don't seem to have much luck.
- We can only travel in school holidays and have a limited budget, so if they cancel our trip to Tunisia we'll probably end up totally outpriced and have to stay at home
especially, if they do so the week before we're suppose to leave [1st wk in April].
I know it's not Thomas Cook's fault but i wish they'd waive the transfer fee and let us pay the extra to move without the £70 as well!
Anyhow, rant over.

Hi there
Sorry to hear that
Have you had a look at other potential holidays? How much is the difference between what you have paid and the cost of the Tunisia break?0 -
Well, without the £35 each extra charge each, it was working out about £70 each extra for Egypt - which now isn't much more of a safer bet!
I might have a little search now, see what there is around Tenerife etc.
We paid £485 each for Tunisia, all inclusive.0 -
Our holiday for Tunisia is showing as £501 each at the moment on Thomas Cook!0

My brother was meant to go Tunisia this week with Thompson I think, they took him to Egypt instead... lol.. hope he gets back ok!9/70lbs to lose0

Can't see the FCO travel advice changing until after the elections, and even then only if the results are accepted by the people.
Shame really. I reckon the independent traveller could fly BA to Tunis tomorrow, get the bus to Hammamet or Sousse, check into a locally run guesthouse, and have a great time.
I'd do it, but am off to Istanbul, Antalya and Side soon:beer:0 -
The Foreign Office has advised against travelling to some parts of Egypt : http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-living-abroad/travel-advice-by-country/middle-east-north-africa/egypt0

I was in Tunisia spent two days there 0ut of 14 Thomas Cook told us to come home. they have just sent me a voucher for £400 for unused accommodation. The holiday cost £1400. I would pay the £70 and change the holiday if they bring you home you lose your holiday and get little back.0

I can understand how you feel, but I would just try and find the extra and change now.
The reason I say this, is back in 2001 I was due to go to Sri Lanka + The Maldives, I then worked as a mgr so cover needed to be arranged, after the terriost saga at the airport, the holiday company were dubious to change me as they said that the resort may be safe, but I explained about work, that I wanted a holiday, I ended up paying another £200 and ended up in Mexico, 2 days into that - was 9/11
I had similar probs last yr - was due to go to Cuba, - the ash cloud was the day before travel, and I had my holiday cancelled at 3am the day I was due to travel. Yep I got a full refund, but I didn't get chance to rearrange as time wise and the impact of the ash cloud.
Hope they get it sorted due to go to Tunisia in July xxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
sorry to hear that, but i would deffo try for another country, tunisia is a 3rd world country & although the beaches are great i would not go back there, we stayed in port al kantoui years ago & got a buggy in to sousse & were accosted by many folk to buy things, when we said no, although the locals could not speak much english they could say f**k in english if you did'nt buy from them, also we got stopped walking from hotel by 4 guys & asked if we wanted to buy cigarettes, we were advised not to from reps previosly because they give you dodgy money back, we refused & these guys pulled a knife on hubby & we had 3 kids with us, hubby said come on then & took off his jacket, i was terrified but guys run off then, would also give egypt a miss at the moment, the canaries are the warmest in the med for time of year, personally in canaries & i've been to a few islands, i would opt for gran canaria over tenerife anyday, depends on what you want from a holiday0
