Tax credit and HB information?

Hi

I'm about to leave home as a result of a relationship breakdown. It is amicable but nonetheless I will be moving out and will be looking for somewhere to rent.

I currently work but it is my own business and is poorly paid at the moment - maybe about 5k a year in total.

I'd like to continue working on that for the time being as it shows promise.

My question is, what might I be entitled to if I continue with my business.

Am I eligible for things like housing benefit? Do I get any help in terms of income - I've heard people discuss working tax credits? Do I get council tax paid for?

What other help might I receive, and is any of it time limited?

I'm very grateful for any information as it's a bit of a scary time.

Put your details into the link above and it'll give you a rough idea of what you would be entitled to.

Working Tax Credits are for people over 25 and working certain hours or under 25 with children. I guess with the income you've said you should be entitled to housing benefit or local housing allowance if you are in a private rent. If it will be private rent check this link to see the maximum you would be entitled to according to your status (single, children etc):

I'm not sure of any additional income you would get alongside your job but entitled to (the link above) should give you a rough idea of what you would be able to claim. Other thing you could do is make an appointment with your local job centre who would be able to tell you what you may be able to claim.

    HTH a little.
