Why can't they put the measurements on floorplans, is it really that difficult? If you're going to spend a shitload of money on a property you'd think that knowing how big the property actually is/room dimensions was quite important to marketing it and selling it. Also when there is just a photo of the outside of the property and they are trying to sell it for a quarter of a million pounds is another common one. You'd think they'd try a bit harder or maybe they are just arrogant?

After looking at a few Rightmove adverts, Agents have trouble with:

the difference between a house and a flat,
    how many bedrooms there are,
any photos more advanced than a blurred close up of a room corner,
whether or not it actually is a popular location
and in some cases even if the property is up for sale.

    Measurements would be pushing it.

I have rightmove depression. I'm planning on relocating to East Anglia, and in cambridge my budget of £110,000 wouldn't get me far.....maybe a pokey studio flat if I'm lucky :(http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-28866799.html

You're lucky, I was brought up there and I remember them being £70k at the peak of the late 80s boom/bust. So they're quite cheap now by comparison!

I knew somebody that lived in that block. It was originally built as a hotel, then changed to being flats, which is why the layout is identical to most travelodge style rooms. At least they have a proper bath! You can't say that for a lot of places these days.

That one's been for sale for quite some time, I remember using it as an example of a small kitchen 3-4 months ago.

And you can't even buy that one at the moment as somebody's renting it until at least September this year, at £570/month.

Most locals, when I lived there, didn't live in town at all. Town was for posh people, council houses and students. Normal people all live in the villages up to 15-20 miles radius.
  • I just thought I'd have a look on Rightmove to see what properties were available in my area. The prices are still ridiculous in my opinion. £140K is needed to even buy a small 2 bed terrace from an 80s or 90s development. Two bed coach houses above garages for similar money.

This new build 2 bed coach house is on for £200K!

Considering that my mortgage for £60K ish costs around £420 per month (fixed rate) then I'd be spending £1200 per month on a £150K property just to buy something that I don't even really want.

I'm definitely better off staying where I am and having money spare to spend on things like living.

What you have to remember is asking price is not a true valuation of a property.

How long has the property been on the market?

If it's overpriced, it won't sell.

Unfortunatley there are still a lot of unrealistic sellers out there at the moment.

almost certainly miss out on their dream homes
None of the stuff that I could afford would ever be described as "dream homes". It's just a matter of trying to find a "that'll do" that's not out of reach.

Nothing much is shifting round where I am unless the price is right.
    Happy chappy
