RIghtmove depression

I just thought I'd have a look on Rightmove to see what properties were available in my area. The prices are still ridiculous in my opinion. £140K is needed to even buy a small 2 bed terrace from an 80s or 90s development. Two bed coach houses above garages for similar money.

This new build 2 bed coach house is on for £200K!

Considering that my mortgage for £60K ish costs around £420 per month (fixed rate) then I'd be spending £1200 per month on a £150K property just to buy something that I don't even really want.

I'm definitely better off staying where I am and having money spare to spend on things like living.

For a 2 bed detached, it has a lot of garages.

!!!!!! is up with that?

Why would anyone use so much space, for garages and make the living area 2 bed and a dual lounge / kitchen?!!?

That £150k is the extra special shared ownership deal.... own part of a flat over other people's garages.

Makes you want to sit down with the architect and owner of the building firm .... look them in the eyes ..... stare at them in silence.... and after half an hour or so just ask very slowly: W ..... T ..... F ......???

A lot of that SO stuff is touted as being for people who can't afford a house on the open market, yet it seems to me that when you look at the open market there are other places people could buy ... and quite a lot of them.

I know of somebody who recently bought a 2-bed SO small terraced new build, £100k as half of £200k. Yet £100k within 2 miles would have bought them a choice of 2-3 bed houses, including one completely refurbished and detached one in budget. They believed the hype that they couldn't afford a house - and so clearly never actually bothered looking.

A few years ago somebody else I knew would bleat "we can't afford a house", so I did the maths and went to RM.... and pointed out loads of lovely houses they could afford.

I've no idea what goes on in most people's heads sometimes.

Hardly detached if the downstairs is owned by someone else. It's just a semi rotated by 90 degrees vertically.

In gated communities you may have no Jehovah's Witnesses or other worries about the scary outside world, but take it from me, if the one I live near is anything to go by, the enemy within is far more sinister. The [STRIKE]inmates[/STRIKE] residents are a self-selecting group. :eek:
