Netbook security

Have just purchased a Compaq CQ10-101SA Netbook (160Gb H/D, 1Gb memory) with XP installed, It comes with Norton (60 days live update) The Netbook probably won't be used that regularly, What security would be most appropriate for it? (The home computer has MSE with the occasional Malwarebytes, CCleaner and Secunia scans)
Would MSE be a bit too resource hungry for such a netbook? also would Firefox/Thunderbird or Google Chrome be better than Outlook etc.
All suggestions gratefully received!
Cheers

Avira, Malwarebytes, CCleaner, Secunia (all free) and Windows firewall.0

MSE is fairly light on a netbook, runs fine on mine with minimal slowdown. Mbam and ccleaner (on demand) won't take up any additional resources when not running. Stick with Windows firewall. And dump Norton.poppy100

If User has 1 year free with Norton I would say go for it (I did on my Sammy N140 no issues whatsoever) however 60 days like it or not , not worth messing with. Not tried MSE on the netbook, but avast is working here and now. Mind you I am in Belgium this evening using hotel's free Wifi (wpa2) and my speeds are d/l 8.6 u/l 1.6 (c.f. my max 6.0...following wind no kids around etc.. / .38) might just not come back to blighty:o Anyhow back to my Leffe Brune :beer:4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex .
