having to pay for an extra bin - wirral borough council!

Options
hi, we are now entitled to an extra bin for general waste (more than 6 living in the household).

i phoned up to order one and found out we now have to pay a one off fee for the bin of £35.

anyone else have to pay for one?

i don't see why we should have to pay.

my friend got one 2 years ago and didn't have to pay.

we are with wirral borough council.

Oh wow, sorry I don't know the answer to your question but how did you get an extra bin, do you have to apply under a special rule or something?

My brother's household, there's ten of them (and no they don't claim anything other than CB and both parents work full time in fact dad has 3 jobs) and they have to make do with the same wheely bin we have and there's only three of us.

why shouldnt you pay for an extra bin? you should pay extra to get it emptied aswell.

the poll tax was a much fairer system than the council tax

I imagine that is pretty standard these days. Maybe you could look at some otehr council websites. In my areas (Reading), we have to pay for a green wheelie (garden waste) so I imagine extra bins cost too.

Indeed 6 occupants - but only the one council tax.
You're property takes up more of the councils resources, should also include an additional surcharge to remove the additional waste.

Councils are looking at doing just that going forward.

I agree, even though with two adults we would likely be worse off it was a much fairer system. Same charge per adult is much fairer.
  • Think the charge for an extra bin is about £20 in Stockport and the black bins are tiny! Also only emptied once a fortnight!
  • I have two general waste bins, I pay £18 extra via an invoice per quarter to the council for the privilege. Jealous neighbours have stolen it twice, left a note to say it has been confiscated:eek:
I have two so that my dogs paper bedding and bagged poop can be kept separate and the bin can live at the bottom of my garden.
Money well spent in my book.

LOL - we don't even get ONE provided. When the garbage is put out in a bin, the garbage collectors have been known to throw the bin in as well, duh! They now get black garbage bags and clear recycling bags left out for them :)

We are in North Norfolk and there are six of us in the house. We were given a larger waste bin for no extra cost last year but I don't know if there would be a charge if we asked for a second waste bin.The larger bin does the job anyway.
