In praise of the warnings

Options
Dear All

This message is in praise of some of the warning threads on this board.

I went to the main site -> Shopping -> MegaShopBot -> and the item I was looking to purchase was found to be cheapest from Pixmania.

So I did a search on this board before buying and judging by the many 'nightmare' and 'warning' threads about Pixmania:eek:..............I'm so glad I did.

I for one am grateful that you take the time to post a thread when you've had a bad experience with a company.:T

Regards

Its good to read them, i think the best i read so far was about horseboy camps.

It also concerns me how many people are falling for these scams in the first place, i have never yet been taken in by any scam, ever, if i want something i will go to reputable sites only, not third party makeshift sites.

Same here Nile, they're agodsend sometimes!

When I moved last year, we needed white goods. Pixmania was the cheapest, so I had the stuff in the basket, but decided to have a look here to see if I could find any codes. I didn't find any codes, but did find plenty of info telling me not to buy from Pixmania, so I didn't!

Yeah they are useful but then as Bongedone said its only people who are angry that ever post, you rarely get positive reviews. If you took everyone's warnings to heart you would never buy anything from Play, Zavvi, amazon, the Hut,John Lewis, Asda or use Hermes deliveries! Still when ordering from a smaller company they provide an interesting barometer of people's experiences.

I appreciate that companies don't get it wrong all the time and some of their customers are happy with the goods/service they get, otherwise they'd be out of business.

I weigh it up, do I really want to take the risk of purchasing from a company with many negative reviews............just to save a few pounds? I made the decision to spend a bit more and buy from another company instead.

That's what I was trying to get across. Your threads and posts help others...........like me.

Also, if the companies getting negative reviews are bothered about improving their goods/service and gaining or retaining customers............these threads and posts are a source for good.;)

Look at the number of company representive members of the MSE Forum:

    Official Company Representative
I am an official company representative of (insert company name); MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list.

They are watching, reading and hopefully listening to us.;)

It amazes me too. these are big massive companies who get it right in the majority of cases and are still posting nice profits so they cant be as bad as this forum makes them out to be or else they wouldnt sill be in business would they .

    just a thought

And yet, some companies get mentioned again and again while others barely get mentioned at all.

They may get it right in the majority of cases, but the evidence would suggest they get it wrong more than would be expected - or they are particularly bad at dealing with it when things do go wrong.

    But it is common sense.

The bigger the retailer , the more the more customers they have.

Therefore they will have more customers complaining

For example X large retailer deals with 50,000 customers a week. They have a 0.5% customer complaint ratio, therefore they have on average 250 complaints a week.

Y small retailer has 200 customers a week. They also have a 0.5% customer complaint ratio, so that equals 1 customer complaining a week.

Probability states that you are bound to hear from at least one of the 250 customers, than the single customer the small retailer has upset.

It doesn't make the big retailer any worse, it just means more people will bang there drums, baying for blood .

I find I get more complaints in the winter in my industry ( heating) than in the summer as you use it more in the winter than the summer. Doesn't mean you are doing anything differently, it's just that you are dealing with more people.
  • Exactly rusty.

Now while we should not in any circumstances let the big boys off the hook for poor quality CS and such it needs to be brought into a level without demonising the companies

    My Thoughts exactly.

That is why I may get a bad name for myself at times on here, as some people go at it hammer and tongue, slating a company, big or small, over something very trivial, or not even the companies fault, it may be that the aspirations of the complainer, do not fit what they have actually purchased nd what it is able to do.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that all complaints are trivial, there is a lot wrong in this world, but making a mountain out of a molehill, is completely OTT to me.

Complain about injustice, complain about dangerous items, but if you do complain, lets make it constructive complaints and not the ''he said/I said'' scenario or that you want to sue someone as you found a piece of soil in a fresh cauliflower ! FGS. Same goes for calling people or companies CON men, Chavs, scum, cowboys etc, when you do not supply full pertinant info to back up your complaint
