I am running windows me and have done a recent virus check and adaware.
Its driving me (almost) insane because when I stat my computer it starts running scandisk.
Have you installed any software/hardware shortly before this problem happened?
I've just got a broadband modem and was told by the suppliers that the high drain on the USB can cause computer to hang when shutrting down. They said I would have to visit website for my mainboard manufacturer and update the the ROM. Haven't done it yet as problem seems to have rectified itself.0 -
Had a similar prob recently.
Used Cont+Alt+Del to see what was running before closing down. Turned out it was my Anti-Virus prog which was wasn't closing properly - after a being cut-off during an update. I uninstalled and reinstalled it from scratch and all was ok.
Another tip is to close windows by using Alt+F4. It will bring up the shut down box and you just hit enter. This can sometimes work around the prob. TIP - All windows progs will close this way - much faster than looking for the mouse!
Another TIP which I love and has saved me LOADS of time sitting staring at the scandisk bar is.... to hit the spacebar or enter/return key as scandisk starts. This will bypass scandisk and load windows as normal. Only use when you're always having to shut down manually - as in your problem - you might miss something otherwise. (My 10 year old nephew told me this one!)Money can't buy you happiness, but it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery.
