How to tell computer to choose which network?

I have a 3com wireless print server set up on a ad-hoc connection with my laptop.
I also have a wired connection to university network for internet and intranet.
If both of these are enabled, the computer tries to go on the web via the wireless connection, resulting in no pages being loaded. If i disable the wireless, the wired kicks in and all is normal.
What can I do to make the computer access the internet/network via the wired and only do the printing (which is fine) via the wireless. Routers are not an option as uni screen via MAC on our computers.

See if Resolving Connection Problems in Mixed Wired and Wireless Networks is any help. Basically, in Network Connections set the interface metric for the Ethernet adapter to a higher number than the one for the wireless adapter.0
