pci cards cannot be used in a pci-express slot as the are incompatable
pcie can only be used with graphics cards (and sound cards, i think)0 -
You need the special PCIe 1x slot for sound cards i believe (its smaller than the PCI x16 used for graphix)0

There is (VERY detailed!!!) information on Wikipedia but if you look at the picture on the right of the screen comparing the different size PCIe slots to a PCI slot you will see they are very different.

you cant run a pci card in a pcie slot but you can get all sorts of cards in a pcie format these days.
you could try looking at pcie-pci bridges. I've only used them in closed chassis
designs but they must be out there for the average consumer. Your problem with a sff case may be space though.NURSE: "Shouldn't it be sterilized, doctor?"

it is possible to get a PCI expansion card that plugs into the PCI express socket to give up to 5 PCI slots (we make them at work!)...I'll see if I can find a link to them...0
