CPU Relative Performance ?

Is there any good websites or a standard way of comparing CPU performance ?
I am looking to buy a new Laptop and there appears to be wildly different costs for different CPU powered Laptops.

Is there somewhere that has compared CPU performance against a 'bench mark' ?

For example how does a 'AMD SEMPRON 3500+' compare against an Intel Celeron 380 ? Or an 'AMD Turion 64 Mobile Mk36' compare against a 'AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile TL50' ?

I am assuming the obvious ? the higher the cost the faster the CPU. Or is this wrong.

Any help will be very welcome.

Toms as mentioned. There's a mother of all cpu charts on there somewhere which shows the performance of cpu's dating back about 7 years.
