in Credit cards
I repaid my Barclaycard in full over seven years ago after having an arrangment to pay on the account for a couple of years.
I have an entry on my Equifax report for a barclaycard with £54 outstanding (which I should have dealt with a long time ago!) the trouble is the card number doesn't match the card number that I had. Having spoken to them today they tell me that it is definitely my account and that they change the number for security reasons (what is that all about?), I've asked them to confirm this in writing becasue it sounds like utter nonsense to me. I've also asked them why I was never sent a statement or letter about the £54 outstanding and they tell me it was too small an amount but unless I pay the £54 this arrangement to pay and outstanding amount will remain on my account.
I have never come across a worse call centre than Barclaycard, it was shocking and the people were so rude and kept putting me through to this automated service just to get rid of the call it seemed!
The account wasn't accruing interest when I repaid it so I can't believe I repaid £54 less than the balance but I just can't seem to get any sense out of them.
The account did have a default on it but this has dropped off now so it seems the easiest way to get rid of it is to send them a cheque for £54 and hope thats the end of it, will the AP details drop off after 12 months?
I know I've waffled and not really asked a question but just wanted people s opinions on the account number change and the whole sorry situation.

A defaulted account should not be showing on your credit record if the default was recorded more than six years ago.My posts are my own opinions based on my experiences and info gathered from sites such as this.

The default is no longer showing, the account still has a balance so it seems unless I pay the £54 it will show as an A to P forever."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

That is correct.
If you pay the 54 quid the account will be marked as closed and settled with a NIL balance.
The AP status will still show as part of the account history, which will remain for six years from the date the account was settled, however because the account will be settled, the AP history will have a lower effect - carry a lesser weight - on your credit score.
Once the account has been closed and settled for 12 months it will have little effect on your credit score and once closed and settled for 36 months will have no impact on your credit worthiness atall except for with the most stringent creditors.
Good luck!

I thought that if an account was settled and closed it would only show on your credit record for 12 months after the account was closed? There is no longer any formal default on the account as this was removed. I'm so cross with myself I wish I had sorted this out years ago. I'm frantically searching for the paperwork, I know I kept it somewhere!"You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

Accounts show on your credit report six years from the date on which they were settled & closed.
Defaults show on your report for six years from the default date irrespective of whether they're settled or not.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48
