Possible to turn off Google Instant search in Chrome browser?

Euurugghhhhh i hate Google Instant...where as soon as you start typing in Google search it brings up related searches. I couldn't find the option to turn it off in v8.x Chrome browser but i've now installed v9 Beta Chrome and there IS an option to turn off Instant under options>basic>search but this doesn't work. Any ideas what to do?

I don't use Firefox and never want to use it so that option is out of the question

It's a Google setting, not a browser setting. Go into Google main page, top right corner select "Search Settings", scroll down, select "Do not use Google Instant" select "Save your changes" bottom left.

I'm afraid this doesn't work PERMANENTLY...as soon as you clear cookies (which i do frequently) it loses the setting. Looks like this has done the trick though :

In Chrome v9 Beta, under options>search there is specifically a box which says "use google instant" which you can select/deselect but this doesn't work for some reason. Perhaps a bug? (it's a beta after all)
