One car, two people, no claims bonus?
Hi
Apologies if this is in the wrong place but...here we go!
My husband and I have one car and the insurance is due in February. Our car has always had me as the main driver and husband as a named driver, therefore giving me no claims and him none.
What we'd like to do is to keep one insurance premium on the one car but try and build up his no claims as well as mine. Are there any policies out there where this can actually happen?
Thanks for reading...

No heard of one and even if ti did exist I would guess you would gain NCB at half the normal rate. If you cant find one why not change names every year.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Some insurers let named drivers build up their own NCD. eg Direct Line.
They can use that NCD only when taking a policy from the same company.0 -
yea direct line offer that but the quote I got was over twice as much as some of the other quote I was getting. I think they bank on their fancy advert to pull people in and not look anywhere else. 3 months free, yea right.Nothing to see here, move along.0

The only way I can think of is for you to have the insurance in his name this year, then yours the next (still declaring you as the main driver though) and repeat.
This way you won't lose your no-claims (need to use it every 2 years so it doesn't expire) but he will only build up 1 year every other year.0 -

Think admiral give named drivers NCB as well, you'd have to ask them though, and you'd have to ask them if you move company would his NCB be allowed to go with him as well.0

This is what my wife and I do.0 -
Thanks for all your replies. I'll give Direct Line and Admiral a call to see what they say. If not, then we'll have a go at this every other year thing!

This is a mine field, I had 7yrs no claims in 2008 with the Post Office, changed to Saga on renewal, stayed with them for 2yrs and now moving again I find that Saga only give proof of 4yrs max. I can't believe it, on speaking to the PO they said if I'd stayed with them I would have had 9yrs but would only quote on 4yrs. If you ask me it all a con.0
