Repairing laptop screen

My 13 year old has managed to break the screen of his new laptop. I've looked on line and seen there are loads of places offering repair for around £100, which would be cheaper than claiming accidental damage on the insurance. Does anyone have any recommendations of companies who offer this service or warnings about what to look out for and who to avoid.
Many thanks.

The best option is always to find someone you know who is tech savvy for this kind of work! Otherwise you'll be paying through the nose for a new screen and the labour on top.0 -

I've used the below myself (a new screen in my HP530 for £135 incl. p&p in both directions - about a year ago).
Excellent service and a quality repair.
http://www.cambridgelaptoprepair.co.uk/Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
another vote for fix it yourself, normally can be done by removing the screws around the screen and popping the front off

OP, I've just replaced the screen on a netbook. I posted on here for advice first as I thought it may be something that was beyond me. After reading the replies, I decided to give it a go and it was the easiest thing in the world to do. A few screws to undo and something to unclip and that was basically it, it seemed much more daunting that it actually was.
I realise not everyone would want to do this themselves but it might be worth checking out prices of replacement screens first and considering DIY before paying premium prices for repair?Herman - MP for all!0 -

Just a word of advice. Get onto Ebay and buy one of those £3 kits for changing iphone screens and opening mobile phones etc. They have a plastic tool in there which is excellent for undoing the clips holding the bezel onto the lid without breaking them.0 -

My weapon of choice is an old Credit Card/ID Card. Not so great for the iPod as some aren't quite sturdy enough but for laptop screens they're flexible enough to not cause damage while being sturdy enough to pop the clips apart.
I usually charge, on average, £80 - £100 for screen replacements with most of the cost being on the screen itself. They're relatively easy to replace even for beginners.0 -
