Income support & housing benefit - Help please

We are on income support and have a mortgage. Benefit has been reduced by £50 per month, as we have 'less money owing on our mortgage now than a year ago'
Our payments are the same (fixed rate), but our cost of living has risen. This has made us worse off than a year ago.
Can they do this? We weren't informed at the time.
Is it worth switching to interest only paymets?
I would appreciate any help on this.
Thanks

To answer your question. Yes, they can do that.
They review your entitlement to mortgage assistance once a year on the "anniversary date". They send a form to your lender to find out how much your mortgage balance is on that date. If your balance has reduced since the last time it was checked, they calculate your interest payments for the following year based on that reduced balance.
So, there you have it.I no longer contribute to the Benefits & Tax Credits forum.0 -
