key fob not working
Options
Hello
Both of my key fobs have stopped working. I posted on here a while ago and someone suggested putting the key in the ignition, turning it once or twice and holding the unlock button. It worked on one set of keys but not on the other. It worked for a while but stopped working again. tried the trick again but not working this time.
Tried changing batteries. Not that either. Dealer said contacts inside have gone but hubby opened keys up and they look fine. Is there anything else it could be or can I get new contacts somewhere cheaper. Dealer saying will cost about £90 for each key. Yikes.
It's a Vauxhall Zafira.
cheers

they just sound like they need repairing, its quite a tricky job on the Zafira keys I usually charge about £25 per key.0

Vauxhall remotes are notorious for failure
what usually happens is the battery holder in the bottom half of the remote brakes away from the circuit board causing it to have a battery failure.
you would need to have it resoldered and then reprogrammed
most auto locksmiths will charge somewhere between 25 to 60 pounds to do the repair and resynch/reprogramme.
thats for both remotes by the way.0 -
Do you need to do both keys at the same time, On mine entering the remote programming mode erases ALL
current working keys, If you do one key when you try the 2nd it removes the 1st.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Depends on the car if you have to resync at the same time. what car do you have?0

Hello
It is Vauxhall Zafira 1.8 Design 54 plate - petrol.
Sorry didn't quite follow what you meant about doing both at same time and one erasiing the other. Could you explain a bit more?
thanks0 -
resynching is putting the key in the ignition
turning it to position II (i.e. lights on the dashboard)
holding the lock or unlock button for 5 seconds
taking the key out and then it works again
do this after resoldering the battery terminal
one at a time is fine
If they need programming (incase resynching doesn't work) get your auto locksmith or auto electrician to do this but they will need to have all remotes present as programming is a diagnostic procedure.
hope that clears things up0 -
thanks Petrolhead. Will pass this info to the techie person in our house for action (ie. not me!).0
