Gas safe engineer to install gas cooker

I have received a quote by a gas safe register engineer for the installation of a gas cooker. Should I receive anything in writing, when I asked whether he will issue a certificate he told me no but if I want one I will be extra? Is this correct? Thanks

Is this a stand alone cooker? If so, is the pipework already there in the kitchen with a bayonet fitting. If so, fitting one is just like putting a bayonet lightbulb in. and anyone can do it, you don't need a gas safe man to do it, you can do it yourself.
