mbna - Don't care wont care !!!!

Options
Last year I opened an account with mbna - to get Virgin air miles, after getting the card I tried for 2 days to activate plus tried on line - no hope:mad:, I did not use the card so I cut it up - safety first :T.

Over the past few months I’ve been getting the usual junk mail offer here and there and as usual stuck them all in the bin.

Last week I get a red letter - Your in arrears of your mbna Virgin card  - but I have not used it - so I call

Mbna - you owe us money
Me - but I have not used the card
Mbna - yes we know but you still owe us £115
Me - but I did not even activate the card - because I have to wait around for days to talk to anyone
Mbna - it still does not matter pay up

As I realised that I was wasting my time, I paid the money and at the same time closed my other credit card I have with mbna.

Morel of the story :A
1/ don’t use mbna
2/ any credit cards you don’t use close, even if that means waiting years on the phone trying to talk to someone Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

PS to get through quickly - press stolen card on the automated system - it gets you a better service

So, what did you owe them the money for?

Have you checked your credit records? I would think that you'd now have late payments registered for that account.
My posts are my own opinions based on my experiences and info gathered from sites such as this.

  • KeithCambs that just seems like a waste of money. Cutting cards up isn't "safety first" your account was still active and if your not answering letters then you would have no way of knowing if somebody was using your card. Your transcript of the phone conversation is nonsense, I've worked for call centres and nobody would say "pay up". I think you should call back and find out exactly what you have paid for.

My guess is you have signed up for a card protection fee.
  • I'm guessing at £115 and the fact you said it was Virgin Atlantic you had applied for the 'Black' card which has an annual fee.

If you dont actually close the account then this fee will be payable every year. You need to call them up again and close the account.

I agree with the post above about the staff saying 'pay up' and also you saying pressing the stolen option gets you better service is nonsence you go through to the same call centre department.

From our experience of MBNA, I wouldn't be surprised if they had used those words. After making a section 75 complaint, my husband was told to 'sell the item' he was complaining about as they didn't want to help us in the slightest.

MBNA are awful and as soon as my current complaint is sorted with the ombudsman, I will cancel my account with them.

    Ghastly creatures.

Twist & Shout is correct - it is an annual fee.

Write a letter to the Customer Advocates Office at MBNA in Chester. Tell them why you never activated the card and as you never used it, you require the fee returned in full.

They will refund this fee if you write in!

    Good luck.

Would the "usual junk mail" include statements?? You binned the statements?
