Self Employment, Job Seeker and University

Hello

At 48, I have just taken voluntary redundancy. I plan to go to university in Sept where I will become a full time student. My official company consultation period finishes at the end of Feb. This means that I will be at a loose end for approx 7 months. I have a couple of questions which may have a bearing on my long term goal of being a full time student:
1. I have the opportunity of setting up a small business venture for the 7 months. I am assuming that I need to register with the tax man as self employed. How would this affect my status in Sept when I go to uni? Can I be a full time student and self employed at the same time?
2. If I do nothing between March-Sept, can I sign on? Will I have to disclose my redundancy pay off. Will I be means tested?

Thanks

Rich A
