benefit compliance officer visit ?

does anyone know if home visit from a benefit compliance officer is a routine thing as i do hear of people having letters sent out to arrange this, is it people at random or for a particular reason? i have a relative who has had a letter arranging a home visit from compliance officer , she is on JS and housing benefit and no reason for visit as no changes to anything and not done anything wrong so wondering what it is about as letter says 'query' on the claim
anyone had similar home visit ? or any advise ? thank you

They are pretty routine, tell your relative not to worry, and neither should they if they know they have done nothing wrong.

Often its just to clarify that you are who you say you are and that you actually live where yu say you are and of course
to check that someone else is not living with you and claiming benefits that they shouldnt be.

    Okay?
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

About 2 years ago we had a benefit compliance officer come to see me and my girlfriend and she told us that our names had came up a few times and thats the reason she has called to see us. Now i don't know why i was picked because when i have been laid off work i always found work within a month, but just before christmas i was laid off work and i couldn't find a job for over 6 months. When she had come to our house thats all she really asked was how many are living in the house, what are the names and date of births, how much money have you got in the bank, does people owe you money, how much money you get for any children, are any of you working. The questions she asked us was the same that was put on the form when we claimed jsa so i think they are trying to catch new claimants out as my cousin have been on the dole for over 9 years and he has never seen a benefit compliance officer.
  • i had a visit a few years ago after a major falling out with a *friend*! she had claimed i was living with my fella in his house and not in my flat ( which was rubbish), the chap was very nice and he explained that they had recieved information that i was living elsewhere, i explained to him that i did stay at my fella's at the weekend but other than that i was home everynight, i also explained about the falling out i between me and my *friend* he wrote everything down and got me to sign it, then said "thats fine, we suspected it was a vindictive claim as there was very little information given".

if u have nothing to hide then u got nothing to worrie about, just be honest with them hun

I had one about 9 months ago. He came round, asked if everything was still the same with my claim and asked me to sign a form confirming it. We did the whole thing sat in the kitchen and he didn't even look around the house. Took about 10-15 mins in total.

today had a visit from a very stroppy compliance officer asking if i had a boyfriend and did he stay at mine when i said yes i have a male friend she kept asking if i was in a relationship i said no hes just a friend she wanted to know when we met and how then kept asking me if he had dinner at mine did he use the toilet, bathroom did we go out together did we have the same friends then asked me if my circumstances had changed when i said no she asked if i had a joint bank account to which i replied why would i have a joint bank account with a friend, she also asked if he gave me any money, then carried on to say i was not allowed to watch TV with him or make him a cup of tea i felt as if i was being interrogated not interviewed when she left she said the the statement she had done would go to a board and they would decide if my benefit would be stopped and that i could not have male friends round my house.
would be very grateful for any advice
