Little infrared gizmo help

Hi folks

We have a new TV in the bedroom with a very bright blue LED shining on it - which disturbs me sleeping.

In the past we used to have this little red thing we stuck on top which let the infrared single through but blocked most of the light.

I've tried googling but got no where. Does anyone know what they're called and where you get them?

Any help appreciated

Martin

Quality Street wrapper? Almost any transparent red plastic will do

EDIT - PS, welcome newbie! ;-)
  • Is the infrared sensor built into the blue led light or actually somewhere on the side and the light is just an indicator as then you could always just put a piece of black tape over the light.

Can't you just cover the blue LED? or is the IR receiver right next to it?

We use something like this to turn the power off and on using a remote

We got ours from ASDA for about a fiver.

  • Our LG TV has an option in the menu to turn off the LED in standby mode, maybe investigate this? I'd imagine most modern brands would have this feature.

How does the LED disturb you when you are sleeping?
Do you sleep with your eyes open?

Black insulation tape over the LED or else kick the missus (or Mr if you're that way inclined) out of bed to turn it off at the mains, sorted. :P

Morrisons sell these too at 3 for just above a fiver now or a single one for just over £2.

    Hi folks,

I should've said that blocking the LED also blocks the infrared sensor hence why covering it doesn't work. The plugging it into a remote would work, though the old 'red cover' thing we had was better. I may look at a red quality street wrapper.

    Thanks for all the help
