If a person is about to apply for any housing or council tax benefits, is it legally ok to reduce their savings by making cash gifts to family members ?

I think it is disgusting - amazing how petty 'offensive' posts can be deleted and users 'yellow carded' but benefit fraud is alive and well on MSE. Rarely, if ever, have I seen a fraudulent thread deleted.0
