50% Council Tax reduction.

Options
Hi guys,

there was recently a article in Soldier magazine by SO1 Non-Operational Welfare stating:

"If you have a second home because of the nature of your job, for example because you are a tenant publican or a member of the clergy and are provided with accommodation as part of your work, then the council must give you a 50% discount on your second home."

I had to fight the council but finally recieved the discount and a rebate. If you are in the same boat, eith a MQ or SLA (you still pay CILOT), make sure you get what you are entitled to!

For most of us our MQ/SLA is our primary residence as we are there most of the time. So if you own a house (without tennants, they are liable for the normal charge) get your discount!

Reagrds,

  • Thank you - we are trying to get the council were we have just brought place to recoginse this, it is proving difficult, the Army charties are being very supportive but the council are taking weeks to answer letters. Like you we have paid and are hoping once sorted will get a rebate.

  • Hi sorry to jump in... I am having trouble with my local council over council tax. I bought a property with my sister in December 2006 as an investment, for her to live in with her husband and child. She was claiming single occupancy discount as her husband was a student and I was paying my CILOCT payment. Our council have now decided I should have been paying council tax since December 2006 so have revoked the single occupancy charge and are claiming 4 years worth of 25% discount back. The house was never my home, I was co-owner she was owner occupier and for the last two years we have fallen out and I am not even welcome in the house. Can the council still do this? Any advice would be appreciated thanks

You might be better off posting this on the housing board.
