That's BBC Watchdog or Rogue Builders stuff!

That's actually something you should seriously consider. Those pics are possibly the worst I have seen in 28 years in the building game.

Have you been living in a cave?? Seen much worse than that, see a few jobs after the 6 mth traing boys started to come into the trade.

See 1 lad solder pipes with the gloss paint still on them, he thought self-cleaning flux would remove the paint in the joint:rotfl:. Flooded the place out.Seen another 1 join wooden gutters with sand and cement.:rotfl:Join solvent weld waste pipe with silicone:rotfl:

When my memory kicks in I'll add a few more.

I know about heating. It looks very rough with precious little customer care/respect for property.

This is what happens when you dont train people properly then drive them hard to produce volume work.

I also noticed a pot of power flux there. I do hope they have flushed and treated the system water?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
  • Eagle eyed!!!! Please please... can you explain what you mean about flushing the system? I have no idea if they have.

I saw this work part way through, I could not believe how bad it was, it was awful, I have never seen such bad plumbing. The damage done was horrendous, no care was taken whatsoever, every room had damage/stains to carpets, wall coverings, paintwork and other items (a brand new washing machine had been used as a saw bench !!) Flooring had just been ripped up, with boards snapped off rather than cut. The photos do not fully show how bad it was !.
Npower should be ashamed of their work and should compensate Phil & Lucy not only for the restoration of the damage etc, but also for the personal and emotional stress that their work has caused.

Self cleaning fluxes are used by some installer when soldering various pipe joints. The trouble is that they remain in the system and so the completed installation needs to be thoroughly cleansed before your nice new boiler is fitted to it. The system water then needs to be treated and a sample taken and tested if you want to go the whole hog !

Failure to do this will lead to a corrosive soup circulating in your system which will very quickly attack the nice finely machined metal bits in your boiler leading to very premature failure.

I have seen modern combi boilers finished in 6 months post installation due to this.

All new systems, up to 6 months old, should be flushed with Sentinel X300 or other makes equivalent. This removes flux and coatings that are in rads whilst being made.

    Hi lucysettle,

I'm really sorry - and concerned - to hear about your problems and also to see the photos you have posted. This is definitely not the service we strive to give when we visit a property.

I immediately contacted our Head of Energy Services as I was so concerned and his response is below:

"I have looked into your complaint and am very sorry to hear of the inconvenience that you have encountered during your recent heating installation. A full internal investigation has been conducted into the issues you have raised and corrective actions are in progress to ensure this situation is not repeated for any other customer.

The team who started the install are now not working for npower hometeam and we are quality checking their work for other customers and are yet to discover any similar issue.

We install many thousands of heating systems each year and, as with any significant home improvement project, there are very occasionally issues encountered as the work progresses; the crucial test is how we respond to these and I note your comments that we removed the original team and replaced them with another team who then completed the work. It also positive to see that your heating installation is now complete and working effectively.

Please be assured we are committed to resolving your outstanding issue of compensation as quickly and thoroughly as possible, we will communicate directly with you as outlined in our letter to you last week.
It is never our intention to deliver poor customer service and I am sorry that on this occasion we have let you down. I can assure you that we are a reputable company and take this complaint extremely seriously.
Once again please accept my apologies on behalf of npower hometeam for the poor service that you received.

    Chris Thewlis
    Operations Director
    npower Energy Services"

    Best Wishes

What a pity that NPower weren't very much quicker to offer generous compensation, which included a let's-keep-this-between-ourselves-shall-we? non disclosure clause. Those photographs are so damaging to the company's reputation.

On the other hand, it's good to know that the power of Martin Lewis strikes again ...

I was in too minds about this one.

Until I saw the pictures. Dodgy pipework is down to unqualified & inexperienced people.

The burning of the carpet there is absolutely no excuse for.

And, may I add, it is plain to see NPower do not check out the skills & credentials of the people that work for them.

Anything for a quick buck it seems.
