Redundant & in Tied Accommodation

Hi,

My husband has worked on a farm since September 2010 and we live in tied accomodation (house comes with the job)
At the start of January he was told they were letting him go and replacing his post of Assistant Manager with two lower paid workers. They told him they wouldnt give him a deadline to leave the house by, but he was to find another job and house asap. They also said that whilst he was turning up to work they would continue to pay him and he would be allowed time off to attend interviews.
He started looking straight away and has been to a number of interviews, but has had no job offers yet.
Last Friday he went in to work and was giving a letter, the first written notice that his job had come to an end, and advising him he would be paid up to this Friday (tomorrow). After that, the letter says we can remain in the house for a further two weeks.
I know there are very little rights when you havent been in a job for a year, but have they gone about things the right way? It seems a bit unfair to be given such short notice, especially when a home is involved. Just to clarify there were no performance issues, at no point was he told he wasnt working up to the standard required. Yet when he said to his boss that he was being made redundant he was told he wasnt as they were replacing him. However I have seen their adverts in the paper and the post they are advertising for is lower than my husbands position - so if they're not recruiting another Assistant Manager then hes been made redundant hasnt he? Why would the boss want to make out he's been dismissed, what benefit would that serve him? This 4 month job doesnt look good on his CV and a lot of potential employers have questioned it, I expect its put some of them off. For info we have been told that the boss has done something similar to previous members of staff and has been taken to an Employment Tribunal which he lost. Any advice would be appreciated.
