Moving the USA with CC debt.

Options
I'm moving to the USA in 2 weeks with a job transfer. However, in the last few years I've racked up about 15k on credit cards.

I'm in no way struggling to keep up payments, but now is the time to start dropping this amount. I joined XE.com, to transfer my US wages into my UK account to keep up payments. I also won't be paying any rent over there so can send a fair amount over each month.

I have a credit card that has just finished 0% so would love to transfer this over to another one but seeing as I won't be living in the UK and not 'resident' I'm pretty sure I won't be accepted for one.

Anyway, no panic stations for myself but this year I intend to drop this debt by hopefully half.

Any advice or tips on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Until you move to the US you are still a UK resident so apply for another card before you go.
  • But my new job is a US company. Wouldn't that make a difference?

    Thanks

It is a bit sneaky but if you still work in a location and live in a location in this country at the time of application i would imagine that would be ok, credit card companies never usually check the info out, they just look at info on your your credit file (rating). The only problem would be you would need to get someone to check the statments to make sure direct debits etc are being recieved ok. as you are paying your salary into a uk current account the CC company will not know you are out the country unless you use the card which of course you should never use a card you have balance transfered onto.
