free harddisk and memory checking software

hi there

is they any good free harddisk and memory checking software, , as i am having problems when i log into windows the computers freezers, also will not start up in safemode.

i have Avast, Malwarebytes, Zonealarm, CCleaner, IOBIT 360, so i do not think its virus or malware infection, so would like to test the hd and ram.

Have you unplugged all peripherals?

HD checking software can be found on the hd manufacturers website, or if you can get into safe mode with command prompt, you can try chkdsk

how far does it get, any messages on screen?

It's very rare for ram to fail if fitted in a factory

There are hard disk and RAM checking utilities on the Ultimate Boot CD and Hiren's Boot CD, but it's probably a software problem that you're experiencing.

I would download a live (bootable) operating system such as Slax and see if the PC freezes when using that: if not, the problem probably relates to your Windows installation.

when logging in to safe mode lots of writing appears on the screen, with please wait, then nothing happens.

when booting normally , boots into windows but the computer then freezers and will not respond, many thanks

Good free hard drive testing software -work out who made your hard drive (look at the sticker on it), go to their website and download their free hard drive testing tools
