Actual cost of daily KW usage ?
Hi,
I'm with E-on for Gas & Electricity and they've sent me one of those monitors which is useful.
At the moment i'm average about 15Kw electricity consumption per day - does this seem reasonable for a family of 4, out through the day ?
Anyway i'm trying to get it down to 12 per day and ideally 10 in the summer.
I was wondering roughly how much 15kw would cost per day at approximate current online tariffs ?
Obviously any saving is good but if by reducing it i'm only saving 50p a day i'll not make such a big deal of it to the rest of the family

15kw per day would cost about £16 per day.
But you mean 15kwh (kilowatt hours), which would cost about £1.50 per day.
To get your exact cost per day, multiply the energy you've used (e.g. 15kwh) by the cost/kwh, which should be about 10p, but could vary between about 8p and 15p for tier two units (the ones appropriate for your question.0 -
Assuming an averaged unit price of 11p, 15kWh would cost £1.65, so you are correct about only saving around 50p per day.
edit: yeah what Graham said0 -
Thanks guys that's very helpful - so is £50 a month about right for average family electricity use during winter ?0

Hi mikeyw,
Your usage sounds about right for the time of year.
It sounds like you are doing all you can to reduce your usage as much as possible, you may want to have a look at the interactive house on the E.ON website.
Also monitor your usage through your meter alongside your energy monitor.
If you would like any of the information booklets for saving energy, I can send them out to you, just use the email address in my profile page.

Remember, 50p per day is a saving of over £180 per year.
