Same as Shellsuit here, we paid a booking fee, then they sent a letter which said we had to go back within 14 days to give notice. Which we did. I really hope they still have your date for you Jill, fingers crossed!
Let us know what they've said! What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -
I knew that they couldnt say 2 weeks after we paid our booking fee, as you cant give notice more than a year before (we got engaged and booked in the May to marry this August)
Anyway, booked to give notice 11th Feb, earliest they can do, and spoke to the registrar who has confirmed all is ok
PHEW!!!!!!!!!Got enagaged 2nd May 2010

Brilliant news! As shellsuit said, you will feel so good coming out of there... After giving notice, we sat down in the car and read the leaflet they gave us with the different versions of the vows and legal marriage phrases, it made me all warm inside

Thanks everyone! I just dont know where the time has gone. We planned to go as soon as it was 12 months till the wedding, and now suddenly its just less than 7 months away. How did that happen???
Looking forward to giving our notice......and we are going to have a night at or venue next month, as we get to try all the menu, and pick 3 of each course, and sample the wine!!
I just LOVE our venue www.simonstonehall.co.uk we booked it the day we saw it, and had only been to one other place.

You'll have great fun! Ours was in November.
Just make the most of it - everyone tells me it's rare to be able to enjoy the meal properly on the day, so lavish in the tasting!0 -
Glad it worked out ok for you. We nearly missed the time period we had to give notice in or else they would give away our date. I paid them a deposit and they pencilled us in but we had a 2 month window from 29/5/2010 to 29/7/10. Due to one reason or another we ended up going 28/7/10- it was only about a month later when I was looking through some paperwork I realised that we nearly missed our window  it would have been a bit of a bu**er if theyhad giventhe date away as we had booked the venue and everything!0
