Unable to play videos on memory stick

I have videos of my grandson on memory stick.I have been able to play them in the past.Now i get message saying "Windows media centre cannot play the file.One or more codecs required to play the file could not be found".I don`t know what this means.Help !!!!!!:o

VLC should be able to view them, you can get it (free) https://www.videolan.org

VLC plays most things without a fuss.

Please backup any important Videos (and pictures), keeping them on a memory stick is risky.

and install the klite MEGA CODEC pack

VLC is my fave though i use it all the time

you can also try KMPlayer its free and plays my mp4 videos without any stuttering, which all the other free ones do
