Any experiences to report on receiving loyalty offers to retain you when phoning to cancel the following cards:
HSBC and First Direct?
or
Capital One?
I should like to cancel these soon after their respective promotions have ended (in the case of FD it was some time ago)
Thanks in advance

I had a loyalty offer from HSBC land on my doormat yesterday. Its for my gold visa. 0% on balance transfers for 6 months with a 2% uncapped fee. Nothing special....0

I had no hint of a repeat offer from HSBC when I phoned to cancel. So it's cancelled.0

Yes, I'm finding I get better offers with new providers. Ditch and switch! Loads of freebies to be had!Money is not the root of all evil - Money-wasting is!;)0

I just cancelled my Abbey card (it was initially run by Abbey, but then they "gave it" to MBNA) They offered me 2.9% for six months on BTs, I didn't bother asking if there was a fee.0

My HSBC promo period ends 1st week of November. I've waited for my statement to show balance is zero then rang them but the best offer they could give me was 7.9% BT for 6 mos. so not good at all. Ask to cancel and close the card.0
