new claim and backdated child tax credit

hi there
dec 5th i rang tax credits about the changes in my circumstances ie, moved house, moved in with my partner plus our baby was due anyday, ( i have 2 other children that i claimed for when i was single). The man at tax credits said he'd stop this claim then i would have to put a new claim in, which we did when the forms finally came through due to the back log from the post with the snow. he also said we would get a back payment . we got our letter saying we were entitled to child tax credits from 14th jan. i was wondering i am due anything for the weeks inbetween (5th dec-14th jan)for my 2 older children? ive rang a few times but just get the message its a busy time and ring back later, so just wondered if anyone had an idea before i finally get through to them
many thanks

It would be from when you called to start the new claim, when they cancel an old claim and start a new one it should be backdated to when you got the forms sent out, I cancelled my joint claim and put in a single claim so the joint claim stopped on the 28th and the new one started that day even though the forms weren't in etc.
I would call them up though, might just be a misunderstanding but you should be entitled to tax credits for the new claim from 5th Dec as long as the new claim forms were sent out at that time.Credit Card: £796 Left/£900 October 2011 :eek:Store Card: £100 October 2011

This happened to me.
Ring them back and explain you want it paid from the date you rang them to change it to joint claim .
They will put a request in told me it takes up to 30 days . I got mine around 2 weeks after ringing them about it.0 -
many thanks, i finally managed to get through to them and they are putting in a request for the back dated payments0
