Bank statements

I am trying to claim benefits and I have been asked by the DWP to send them copies of my bank statements for the last three months. I was under the impression that it is not allowed to ask people to show their bank statements. I can understand their wanting to see how much money you have in your account, but this can be achieved with a bank ministatement. I cannot understand their wanting to see how you have spent your money. Isn't this against human liberties?

If you want to claim money from the state then you have to comply with their requests. A mini statement will show them virtually nothing. Its not just about the balance its spotting other things like hidden accounts, other income etc.0

Have you declared savings near the 6K region? I think it's pretty standard practice to request bank statements in these cases to ensure no deprevation of capital has occured.Daughters Sealed Saving Pot - start them young :money: £90 :T0

Dont think this is against any human rights/liberties afaik
you dont have to show them, but then of course that means they dont then have to pay you.

No, it's to help identify if the claimant qualifies for means tested benefits which have a savings threshold and haven't deliberately deprived themselves of capital in the recent past, trying to bring down their savings to increase their benefits.
Many landlords want to see copies of bank statements from their prospective tenants, too, in case the tenants are taking liberties with them by asking for the keys for a property that they clearly can't afford.0
