BT unlimited anytime calling plan.

Hi,
I have landline rental and unlimited calling plan from BT. I have the paperwork from 2008 when I joined the unlimited plan. It is an ongoing renewable 12 month contractfor the calls.
I would like to pay 'upfront' for the line rental which is £120.00 and rang BT to organise this and renewing the calling plan.
Imagine my surprise when he said 'so you want us to bring the calls back to BT! I told him he must be mistaken as I have been paying BT £4.95 for this priviledge for the past 3 years.
He is adamant that my calls are provided from another source but cannot tell me who! Jokingly, I asked if I could have my money refunded but you all know the answer to that. I can assure you I pay for telephone calls to no other provider.
I have just tried to have another conversation regarding this and she was about as much use as a chocolate fireguard.
Can anyone help me find out who I am getting my calls from please?
Sally

  • A lot of jokers work for BT. Try them again and if no joy call Ofcom.
Named after my cat, picture coming shortly
  • If you look at your bills, do they only show line rental - in which case all the calls you've made appear to have been free of charge :) or does it show calls too?

On a tangent, as far as I'm aware, paying upfront covers line rental ONLY and it's possible to have that, and have the calls with someone else anyway.

So paying up front for a year of line rental does not involve "moving" your calls anywhere so far as I can see and who they are with should not be a stumbling block for getting the line rental sorted nor it it really any of the operator's concern.

    Hi,
Thanks for your input. My bills show line rental and a separate £4.95 for the unlimited plan. Its always been like that ever since I joined the unlimited plan. Previously was just paying for what I used with BT. Its currently £13.50 for the line rental and £4.95 for unlimited anytime plan and because I have opted for paperfree billing, they deduct £3.75 per quarter so bill usually around £52.00.
I had thought of doing what you suggested and just go for the line rental at £120 per year and get the calls for nothing as BT say they are not coming from them!!!!!! and of course don't now where they are coming from. But, knowing my luck, when whoever is supplying my calls realises, I'll be landed with an almighty bill. I'm going to ring OFCOM for some advice. Thanks again - Sally
PS The calls usage says - no calls made on this number. Some time ago I did have a word with (India) and he said not to worry as the calls wouldn't be listed anyway!!!!

I'd leave well alone because you'd certainly lose the £3.75/quarter paper-free discount if you went for the Line Rental Saver option.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Hi,
I have now had a word with Ofcom. She told me exactly what was happening, its called 'slamming' and
BT will know who I am getting my calls from!!!!!
She is writing to them today and they have 4 days in which to respond after which she will be in touch. Onwards & upwards. Sally
