PC Wifi adapter

My PC does not have a wifi card so over the last few days i have been teathering using my HTC desire. Basically, i connect to my home wifi on the phone, plug it to the computer and select USB teathering. This has worked great and have been getting good speeds.

Today, i have got hold of 2 USB wifi adapters, one is a Belkin N and other is an Edimax.

But the internet speed is alot slower when using the USB adapters, on speedtest.net im getting half the speed. Why is this?

I thought the USB adapters would be alot quicker than using my phone to teather?

thanks

It could be the position of the adapters. If your HTC was connected to the PC by cable it could have been say on a desk, but a USB dongle could be on the floor behind the PC. Try putting the dongle on a USB extension cable.

Also, are you sure that when you were tethering that the HTC was using WiFi to your internet connection, and not 3G.
